Shoestring Gourmet Ever been to a gourmet potluck? On the second Saturday evening of each month, we meet at a different member's home to eat a multi-course meal that we cook ourselves. Each month's dinner is on a theme that we agree on the previous month and publish in MAAM. Usually, we cook the cuisine of a specified country or region. Sometimes, we'll do dishes from a particular movie, a theme related to a current holiday (and one by one, we're doing them all!), or occasionally an off-the-wall theme, like aphrodisiacs or foods of one color. We request that everyone who wants to participate in a "Shoestring" call this month's host, listed in the Calendar, by the Thursday of the week we meet. This allows the host to tell each attendee how many people to cook for, and to make sure that the dishes people bring are coordinated within this month's theme. You need not have to worry that two of you will bring the same dish. Although on Shoestring Saturday, you will do most of the cooking at your place before bringing your dish, all hosts have facilities for warming dishes when you arrive, or even for cooking on the spot when the theme and circumstances require it.
