Better Than Nothing?

by Mel Anderson, GPM Election Committee

I went through the latest Member Directory and highlighted everyone in GPM I knew by name. I came up with 70, or about 10%. I have probably asked about 30 people to run for office, receiving roughly the following answers in descending order of frequency:

"I don’t have the time."

"I have too much experience in Mensa."

"I don’t have enough experience in Mensa."

"If I hold office I’ll be expected to run again."

"O.K.., I’ll run."

(I had to include number 5 because we do have some candidates).

The point I’m trying to make is that nobody is perfect, but we need somebody to fill the offices.

I will be phoning another 30 members, as well as continuing to recruit in person during my rounds at events. We need volunteers.

If you are willing to run for office, contact a member of the election committee: Mel Anderson (381-9337 or 264-1464), Bob Rosenberg (274-3012) or David Rood (990-3767). If approached by one of us, please consider answer #5 or try to be original in declining, just to make our jobs more interesting (smile, smile). Thanks.
