The Other Bill’s Not So Strenuous Hiking Group

By Bill Taylor

My January hike on the Waterfall Trail in White Tank Mountain Park attracted a record group of six hikers. However, the winter rains had not started yet, and, even though there was a pool of water at the base of the falls, there was no running water.

For my March hike, I’m going into McDowell Mountain Regional Park, north of Fountain Hills. We’ll be using the Wilderness Campground Trail, which goes less than 2 miles into the park, with an ascent of 200 feet, so the round trip will be less than 4 miles. I never hiked the McDowell Mountains before the big fire, so this will be a chance to see the damage, and the recovery so far. We’ll meet at the McDonald’s at the entrance to Fountain Hills, east of the Beeline Highway on Shea Boulevard at 8:30 AM Saturday, March 8. Please bring something for a picnic lunch, as there are several picnic areas near the trailhead. Call me for carpooling to the McDonald’s. Questions? Call me at 897-0803.
