Kentemplations

This issue of MAAM kicks off another election season for GPM -- a time, fortunately for us in recent years, of some considerable boredom. Trust me, you don't want to see exciting Mensa politics.

Please take it seriously when we say that any member is eligible to run for an office on the Executive Committee. We count on our members -- and particularly on "new blood" -- to come out and take a turn working on the business of the group. Too many of "the usual suspects" in GPM are nearing the point of burnout, and it doesn't need to be that way. Most of the jobs in GPM are small enough to require only a few hours each month, if that.

Thanks to Bob Rosenberg, who spent plenty of time in the traces for GPM back in the '70s and '80s, but who agreed to serve on the Elections Committee this year. He's one of the people you can call and talk about running for office (the other two are yet to be announced -- so you may even be able to grab a spot on that committee if you call me soon).

Every once in a while some Mensa activity turns into a sort of Homecoming event -- and January's Brunch 'n' Banter was just such a thing. In addition to Bob Rosenberg making a rare appearance, Bob and Estelle Eaton were there. But the biggest surprise for me (and a number of other long-time members, I'm sure) was a visit by Marty ("Scotty") Simeons, who was in town for the weekend.

It made me a bit nostalgic for a lot of Mensan faces I haven't seen in a long time, yet are still members of GPM. So, don't be strangers, y'all! Start coming to a few events and we'll share both old and new times.

Happy Valentine's Day!
