Kentemplations — Vive la Difference!

New Location for Brunch 'n' Banter! My title this month is chosen in honor of our new venue for Brunch 'n' Banter and the Greater Phoenix Mensa Executive Committee (GPM ExCom) meetings, both regularly held on the first Sunday of each month — the 9th for April. Come 11:00 a.m. we'll be at La Madeleine, a nice French cafe that recently opened a new store at 32nd Street and Camelback.

Serve yourself from among the many delectable items (very reasonably priced) in the cafeteria line, then find us in the Wine Room. Thanks to Bill MacIntosh for suggesting this classy place!

GPM Election News. First, we have news concerning the composition of the Election Committee. Joining Bob Rosenberg (274- 3012) are Dave Rood (990-3767) and Mel Anderson (264-1464). Call any one of them to declare your candidacy for one of our local Mensa offices — but hurry! The deadline is April 5.

And don't be shy. We really want and need "new blood" on the board, and no incumbent "owns" his or her job. Indeed, most of the current board plans to take a rest from the responsibility of running things, so your participation is now doubly important.

Hassayampa Update. Many of you have been wondering about the status of our dispute with the Hassayampa Inn (where our last Regional Gathering was supposed to take place). They still have our $2,200 deposit after a few rounds of correspondence with them and their attorney in which we attempted to settle the dispute out of court based on the merits of our case. They seem to be of the opinion that proving they deserve our money is unnecessary when they possess it — at least until we take them to court. We are now getting professional advise concerning whether the RG Committee has sufficient documented evidence to make our claim stick in court.

RG Chair Needed! As for our next RG, it's high time we had someone to put it together. Would you like to assemble a committee of fun-loving Mensans to put on our annual Thanksgiving Weekend convention? To learn more about what chairing an RG requires, give me a call at 248-8583.

Flagstaff Area Mensans! Now's your chance for some local excitement. Cynthia Clanton is looking to establish an array of Mensa activities (including recruitment and testing) in Flagstaff, so why not help out? Call her at (520) 779-6478, or drop her an e-mail note at Clanton@infomagic.com. Who knows — maybe this will lead to a new local group being born up north!

That's this month's report. Have a cheery April!
