Mensa is whatever you make it. If you don't participate in any way, you'll probably find GPM boring. But if you do get involved, you'll probably decide, like I did, that it's one of the best groups going. My goal as LocSec is to create an atmosphere that will encourage and entice you to get involved however much or in whatever way fits your personality, time limitations and energy level best. Together, we can make Greater Phoenix Mensa a dynamic organization.
Here are some specific plans I'd like to accomplish over the next year:
develop a packet for our new members, welcoming them to the organization and including among other goodies, a New Member Handbook.
hold a regularly scheduled "new members reception", perhaps every time there is a fifth Sunday.
revive the RG, scaling it down a bit and experimenting with holding it on a different weekend than Thanksgiving.
expand GPM's community service outreach to include other activities, such as a blood drive.
explore the feasibility of developing a GPM "yellow pages" so that Mensans can seek out out other Mensans for various services needed.
explore the feasibility of holding a giant all-GPM garage sale, with profits used to host a holiday party for members at a local restaurant.
If any of these ideas interest you, come on out and help us make them happen.
