By Mike Johnson
Mike Johnson turned by far the fastest time ever seen at Malibu Grand Prix; an incredible 32.39 seconds! (we have the picture to prove it.) Unfortunately, jealous rivals used a technicality to exclude this result. They complained that Mike's creative shortcut through the pylons reduced the half mile course to 1/4 mile. This sort of nit-picking is most unsportsman like but Mike generously decided not to contest it.
With this adjustment to the results, Jim Vogler regained his position as champ. He also got to drive the Super Virage, reserved for special performers only, and turned 10 laps all at under 49 seconds, with a fastest at 46.93. Not to be outdone the kid who works the track turned 45.40 in the same car!
Pete Costantino drove daughter Cheryl in the two seater for a 64.45 second lap. They switched and Cheryl drove Pete for a lap at exactly the same 64.45 seconds. John Penney and wife lapped at 53.87. John's daughter-in-law, Tausha, wiped out one car on her first ever lap at Malibu, then jumped into another car and ended with a very respectable 52.66 second lap.
This is becoming a very enthusiastic event, everyone turned very respectable times, and had great fun.
