Young at Heart

by Carol Young, LocSec

Here it is. My first column as LocSec. The start of a new Mensa year. A new ExCom. New ideas. I’ve got new enthusiasm. And hopefully you will have new enthusiasm, too.

Greater Phoenix Mensa is a dynamic organization, but of late, it started running the risk of slipping into a "same old same old" routine. When there are no new developments and no surprises, people start losing interest. That leads to less involvement, which in turn leads to less activities, which in turn leads to a less dynamic organization. I’d like to reverse any hint of that trend and get people fired up enough to want to be involved -- again or for the first time.

If you haven’t been active in Mensa activities for a while, think about becoming re-involved. If you’ve never been involved before, now’s a great time to start. Many people are afraid to step forward, thinking that they’ll wind up saddled with too much to do. I will emphasize again that YOU and you alone will decide the amount of time you spend on Mensa activities. Give me a call and let me know you’re interested in helping. My first question will be "how much time do you have to give" and we’ll go from there. We have, or will have, many little things that could use an hour or so of someone’s time and energy. We have ongoing projects. We have one-time projects. We’d like to have a list of people who could be called upon to help out when the need arises.

If you enjoy belonging to Greater Phoenix Mensa, make yourself known and help your new ExCom build a really "greater" Phoenix Mensa.
