In December an untimely fall by one of our regulars, plus others caught out of town and with visiting relatives, left us unable to hold a December Gourmet, so we are now free to look to January.
So its New Year morning. You force open one eyelid, slowly focus on the empty Pepto-Bismol bottle on the nightstand, then even more slowly focus on how much you ate over the holiday season. Pretty impressive, wasnt it? Demonstrated to the whole world, didnt you, that you could dive into a seafood bar and stay under for a whole hour on just the oxygen in your bloodstream, feeding on shrimp the whole time? Came to work every morning to find a new tray of leftover home-baked goodies by the coffee machine? Since Mensa means table, you felt obligated to spend the whole month of December sitting at one after another? By now, NASA can track you from orbit.
Now its time to repent, and have as much fun as you can doing it. On Saturday, January 10, 6 p.m., Shoestring meets at the home of Ursula and Alan Gore for cooking on the light side. Dont just think of low calorie counts here; well be looking for dishes that feel light, refreshed and ready to face a new year. Decembers holiday food kept you weighted down in a cold winter wind; now youll be looking for some culinary opposites. This is the time to try your herbal stylings and aerated crispy delights.
Remember: please dont forget to call Ursula at 863-9648 by Thursday, January 8, to coordinate your dishes and portion sizes.
