RG '98 Update |
Your RG Committee has been busy making plans to create a spectacular RG weekend indeed! LOTS of good food including tasty non-widening munchies. If you like to dance, we will have a live band for you on Saturday night. If you prefer to just watch, there will be a carnival atmosphere in the ballroom to keep you well occupied while you do. We are in search of more street entertainers, so if you have or know of a talent (like juggling or fake tattooing), please call me at 264 9321. We will pay in Mensabucks, exchangeable for exciting boutique treasures for those fun jobs.
Phoenix's Phull Mensa RG will make history as the best bargain on the Gatherings page of the Bulletin, and Phoenicians have a ringside seat. For the price of registration (which is within the range of other RGs), we will serve two buffet meals a day in the dining room, for the four day event. Pete and Ursula are planning and cooking ahead to make it affordable. Those who stay at the hotel will have three meals, since all hotel guests receive a light breakfast with their room. Many people are cooperating to provide many gastronomical pleasures for us, around the clock, and they are humoring me with lots of healthy fruits and veggies.
The Days Inn provides several advantages to us. For one, they do not have a restaurant or bar, and our Hospitality Suite will therefore not compete, so they are not restrictive with us. They do have a kitchen though, and we will have the full use of it. The feature I like best is that we won't walk ourselves to death the way we have at other hotels. Everything will take place in the same building. The only reason to go out of doors will be to use the pool and hot tub. This year we will take full advantage of all the lecture rooms, scheduling three events or more for each time slot, and all those rooms are all together on the main floor.
We have received some beautiful contributions to the MERF Auction, but we need a LOT more to make it exciting and gainful. Sizable items will entitle you to an IRS receipt, small ones Mensabucks. We also need a lot more white elephants, dust collectors, nifty gifties and cute stuff for the Boutique, for which you will exchange your Mensabucks. We can also give you Mensabucks for your contribution!. Take them to any GPM event for collection by any officer, or call me to have them picked up. If you think you can more easily take them with you to the RG, forget it. You will be so preoccupied you will surely forget and end up being annoyed with yourself when you want to be carefree and cheerful.
