REGIONAL RAMBLINGS |
The AG is now a pleasant memory. The Orange County Flamingo Fling RG is too. They had a silent auction with more flamingo mementos than you would believe. Since then Tom Streeter’s job has taken him to San Diego and he has moved his membership. Orange County’s loss is San Diego’s gain. Assistant LocSec. Meg Sulzen has moved up to the top spot.
Labor Day weekend will, as always, be Asilomar RG. Although this gathering is not in our region, it deserves to be mentioned because so many region niners attend every year. It is time to register for the Inland Empire RG. This year it is called Technology and Family and will be from October 9 to 11. If there is no registration form in this newsletter, see the Gatherings page in the Bulletin.
Other Regional Gatherings coming up in our region are the Phoenix Phesta in January and the Las Angeles RG in February on Catalina Island. I also plan to conduct a Leadership Development Workshop weekend in February. More information on these events later.
Ted Elzinga (a past RVC) recently had quadruple bypass heart surgery. He was home in three days and is doing fine.
The AMC meets again in September. The most discussed agenda items are one (actually two) that try to determine who is responsible for non-member party guests and another about minimum standard by-laws. I would still like to hear your thoughts about the AMC Structure Review Committee motions which were tabled until the December Meeting. Your LocSec and Editor have copies of these motions.
American Mensa wants to recognize Local Groups that are special. There will be several awards for Group of the Year. These will be awarded in various group sizes to allow smaller groups to be recognized. You will be able to read the details in the Bulletin and Interloc. They also want to recognize Local Groups that are involved in community services.
Your group may also be looking for more Proctors. We will be needing more as it is becoming more difficult to get old test scores. There will also be a need for Proctors a little later in the year. More about that when it becomes public. If you are interested in becoming a Proctor, talk to your Proctor or Testing Coordinator.
Enjoy the great weather and get out to some Mensa activities.
