The Other Bill’s Not So Strenuous Hiking Group

By Bill Taylor

This month’s hike will be the Treasure Loop Trail, in Lost Dutchman State Park. The hike brings you up against the cliffs at the east end of the Superstition Mountains, with some spectacular views. The hike is a gradual ascent of less than 500 feet, and a round trip of about 2 and a half miles. Bring your camera. (Have no fear; we won’t be going anywhere near the Lost Dutchman’s Mine, where bodies of those who got too close are sometimes found.) The park entrance is on the Apache Trail Highway just northeast of beautiful downtown Apache Junction.

There is an admission fee for the park, so car-pooling is recommended. Let’s bring picnic-type food for a lunch afterwards at the picnic tables near the trail head. Wear comfortable shoes, and bring drinking water. Either meet at my house at 1133 W. Cornell Dr. at 8:30 AM the morning of Saturday, November 28th to carpool, or at the trailhead at 9:30 AM. Call me at 897-0803 for details.
