I have a theory that I think is quite credible: the earth has somehow sped up and has caused all the timing mechanisms in the world to increase their motions at the same speed. The result is that a full year now only takes 10 months, even though it still LOOKS like a full year on every clock and calendar. This is the only explanation I can think of for why everyone I know insists that there just isn’t enough time anymore. And I’m talking "everyone" – from people who are very busy and cram too much into their lives to people who are seriously depressed and sit around doing nothing. Everyone insists the days, months, years are racing by.
To further prove my point, just look at the calendar: IT’S NOVEMBER!!! Already!! Wha’ happened? Where did April - October go? (I kinda remember January, February and March). As you read this, I’ll be putting final touches on a Christmas display that goes up in Sedona’s Los Abrigados Resort starting the night before Thanksgiving. I’m racing to get it done as I write this.
Regardless of my theory, it is November and that means Thanksgiving. Be sure to check the Calendar entry for Thanksgiving and give Pat Hull a call. Volunteer to cook a turkey or ham (you’ll be reimbursed for the costs of buying it), bring a side dish, and spend all or part of Thanksgiving with your Mensa family.
We have a Scholarship Chair and a Community Liaison Chair. Both are in the person of Yvonne Solbrekken. If you have an interest in reaching out to the community, if you’d like to judge essays for the Scholarship contest or if you have ideas for these activities, give Yvonne a call at 917-3754 to volunteer your time.
Gotta run, according to my calculations, I only have 10 more hours until I have to be in Sedona.
