WOW! Was it fun!!!!
I have to admit it, I was a virgin. Sure, I played around a little, teasing up ads and promotions, thinking up new ideas, but …
I’d never attended an RG before. Last year I got flu. The year before … well, I just don’t remember, but I simply hadn’t attended.
So I made it this year. What a rush!
Because I’m an administrator for another professional organization, I know how much work goes into an affair like this. Confirming the site. Getting speakers. Coordinating times and AV requirements. Planning and making food. Logistics. Promotion. Tracking registrations. Thinking up themes and games. Begging for donations for the auction. And a million more things, all of which seem to try to go wrong at the last minute.
But we got through it, and people were still smiling at the end of the weekend.
Who to thank?
Gary and Gail, responsible for the lucid and clever signs, sign-up sheets, and a million more visual aids. Carolyn and Pat, for whipping into shape an incredibly disparate group of speakers and riding herd on them. Ursula, Jenny, and Paul, for slaving for weeks over food, menus, preparation, and dishes. Alan, for slogging through paperwork registration, keeping track of payments, and making badges. Ken, for being there when little spats arose, and doing his darndest to keep things on an even keel. Robert, for recording the whole deal. Bruce, for valiantly withstanding ear-splitting off-key singing and still having the nerve to put another song on. Pete, for pitching in wherever needed – cheerfully.
And the lady who rode herd on the whole thing. Who wanted to have LOTS of food, beautiful music, interesting people, and a warm Mensa atmosphere.
This rose is for you, Leigh. Well done!
