Excom Mini-Minutes |
Meeting was called to order at 1:05pm with the following members present: Carol Young, Jerry Corbin, Carolyn Robinson, Meg Kelleher, Bruce Stiles. Guests included Mel Anderson, Leigh Butler and Mary Lamagna.
LocSec Report: Carol Young reported that GPM has a fighting chance to win "Group Of the Year" since it hosts many of the key events used in the scoring and so will submit an application. Pete Moskovis has requested that a new Proctor Coordinator be found, since he would like to turn over the reins to someone else, having done this for 4 years. Carol thanked Pete Moskovis for his dedication in making sure that qualifying tests were administered in timely and friendly manner and Paul Beetham for sacrificing the privacy of his home for several hours every other month so tests could be held. Leigh Butler expressed interest in becoming Test Coordinator and said she would contact Pete Moskovis for details and information.
Assistant LocSec Report: Jerry Corbin notes that over 50 people attended Friday night’s Forum. Attendance is noticeably up since the move to Auto Nation and it would appear that despite a few complaints about the site location, the Forum will continue to be held there. Nevertheless, site location of the Forum remains under ongoing review and anyone who knows of a centrally-located site that can accommodate 50-75 people that Mensa can use once a month for free is encouraged to let Jerry Corbin know.
The Membership Committee is planning a party for all Greater Phoenix Mensa members and particularly new members. The party will be catered, is scheduled to be held in late June and will be free to Mensa members and one guest. Details will be available in MAAM when they are firmed up.
Treasurer’s Report: Gene Holmerud reports that Greater Phoenix Mensa is solvent.
Editor’s Report: Stevie was absent due to a stomach virus, but nonetheless she was roundly criticized for editing out the date and time of the April Forum in the last MAAM edition. Extensive discussion was held regarding the reason why she was unable to make sure each article covered the 5 W’s of good reporting. Jerry Corbin said he would check the original submission to see if he inadvertently left this information off and let us know, but no one really expected to get a return call from him. Discussion was ended when the ExCom members agreed unanimously that Stevie is irreplaceable.
Old Business: Bruce reminded all to make sure there is a Mensa sign clearly identifying the group when it is being held in a public location so that new members will have no difficulties finding the group.
New Business: Leigh Butler raised the possibility of GPM having its own building to hold all its events. Extensive discussion centered around many potential problems. Leigh agreed to continue researching the possibilities.
Meeting adjourned 1:55pm
