Forum: Evolution of Kinship and Religion |
Since the earliest days, nearly all tribes and societies have held established beliefs and practiced religion in some form. Even non-believers must admit the importance of religious belief in helping to shape mankind’s history (for both good and evil).
One of the most important social roles of religion is to provide a sense of kinship for the practitioners. Man is a social animal, and the need for kinship is a major social factor in the widespread acceptance of religion.
The purpose of the June Forum is to explore, from an anthropological point of view, the evolution of the role of religion in shaping morality and cultures. No specific religious belief will be promoted nor ridiculed.
Our speaker for the June Forum is Lyle Steadman, Ph.D., an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at ASU. Professor Steadman often lectures about the role of religion in cultures. It should prove to be a very thought provoking and interesting Forum. Please plan to attend.
