REGIONAL RAMBLINGS |
The Leadership Development Workshop is over but the effects will go on. Thirty-nine members attended, with representatives from most of our region’s groups. We had a solid, no-nonsense program with a competent line-up of presenters. The members present participated enthusiastically in the sessions and many are keen to become more involved in their Local Group and to initiate new programs. Expect to see new enthusiasm in your group, and join in the fun.
Escape to Owland on Santa Catalina was a success. What a pleasant place. The weather was kind to us and the sea was calm. Margie would have been very pleased.
By the time you read this, the Spring AMC Meeting will be over. There are a number of agenda items which effect the local groups, I will report on them next month. This is the meeting where we approve the budget for the coming year. There is no request for an increase in dues.
By now you should have renewed your membership. If you have not, do it today. You can now pay by credit card over the phone. Culture Quest is on April 25. Did your group get a team in this year? If there is a question; What national holiday is today and in what countries? The answer is ANZAC Day - Australia and New Zealand.
The Big One, the Annual Gathering in Long Beach, is almost upon us. If you have not registered yet, do it today (right after you renew your membership), then call the hotel and book your room. The hotel is filling fast. If you can not find a registration form in this newsletter or a back issue, turn to Gatherings in the Mensa Bulletin.
Just to make sure that I do not have a second to myself, I am chairing an RG for my local group Borderline Mensa. It will be six weeks after the Annual Gathering, just when you need an RG fix. We have only just started to advertise this event and already registrations are more than double what we expected for early bird registrations.
This is election year. There will be National and International elections. Be sure to read the campaign statements and the pro and con statements for the referendum items then cast your vote. I will be running unopposed as your RVC, but this is no excuse for you not to send in your ballot for the other offices and issues. This is your organization and your vote does count.
