Many of our Local Groups have recently changed officers, others will do so soon. I would like you to join me in thanking those who have taken the time and spent the effort to make Mensa more enjoyable for all of us. Let us also offer our support to the incoming officers. Many groups will be looking for appointed officers at this time. Why not offer to serve in one of the positions listed in this newsletter. If there is a task you would like to do that is not listed, talk to your LocSec. In Mensa there is a job for everyone who wants to work.
The news is still good from the National Office. Membership figures are up on all fronts. More new members are joining. More lapsed members are rejoining. Less members are letting their membership lapse. There is a new mood in Mensa. Take the time to join these people at at least one Mensa activity each month. Why should you miss out?
Many of our groups have sent in their entries for CultureQuest ®, Group of the Year, Publications Recognition Program and Public Service Awards. All the awards will be presented at the Awards Banquet at the Annual Gathering in Long Beach. I hope you will join me to cheer when your group wins an award. I expect to be able to give the nominations for some of these awards next month.
I hope you have registered for the AG and booked your room. Prices go up for registration and rooms after May 30. The Hyatt Regency no longer has rooms at the Mensa rate for the entire weekend. They still have rooms at a higher rate for those nights that are fully booked. There are also cheaper hotels nearby.
The National and International election ballots should all be in by now. You did vote, didn’t you? They should be counted in a few days so I will give you the results next month. We can not loose nationally. We have three good candidates for Chairman. I will be happy to serve under any of them. Of course I only voted for one of them, but I am not going to tell you who. It was a tough choice. I am always happy to see contested elections but it is a shame when we have three capable and willing candidates and one wins and the others get nothing. Nevertheless, next election let us have a contested race for RVC 9.
