Dear Ms. Crowley:
I'm sure it's not all that important to some, but the cover story on April's "Much Ado About Mensa" fails to note the date or time of the Forum. In addition, I can only "intuit" that it is to be held at AutoNation, for the story then seems to give me directions as to how to get there (although the author may only work there and wish me to buy a car from him/her). This seems, and again, only to me, to beg the question as to why a Mensa Forum is being held at a car dealership.
Journalism: Who, What, Why, Where, When. I've been a Mensan for a LONG time, and it remains totally amazing to me that amongst us, few can manage to write a simple declarative paragraph, let alone a simple declarative sentence. "Fancy" and "pompous" overpower "simple" and "informative" 100 to 1. If the invitation was clear in the classic 5 W's, more Mensans might be able to attend this event (assuming these actually is one and the article is not really a car ad) without having to guess as to time, date and location. I, for one, will NOT try and call "Jerry Corbin" for I have no need to be electronically ignored by "Jerry Corbin's voicemail" (or Jerry Seinfeld's Soup Nazi, for that matter). I get ignored by enough voice mail systems each day that they threaten to put me out of business. I wish the simple facts in a simple story could simply BE in the Monthly bulletin. is this too much to ask? What do you think?
