Mensa Couple Helps Los Alamos Fire Victims |
Inspired by photographs of the large-scale devastation resulting from the Los Alamos fire, two GPM’s who live in PebbleCreek Resort Community in Goodyear (in the West Valley), Judi and Neil Krentzin, organized and coordinated a fund raiser for the victims. The event was held on Friday, June 16.
It consisted of a bake sale open to all residents and employees of PebbleCreek. Over 200 people became involved - either baking, selling, or buying. Many people chose to donate their change from their purchase, and others made outright contributions.
The PebbleCreek Community Church added a generous cash contribution, also. As an added incentive for those buying baked goods, and thanks to the contributions of 17 local merchants, door prizes were awarded to many of the customers.
As you may recall, Judi and Neil were in charge of the MERF Silent Auction at last year’s GPM RG, where they also solicited many of the items to be auctioned. The total raised at the bake sale and sent to the Red Cross in Albuquerque was $1,080.
The Krentzins, who have lived in Arizona for two years, felt that this project was something that would allow the residents and the staff to work together. Everyone involved was extremely pleased with the results of such a total community effort.
