Calendar Pages

By Joni Fetz, Calendar Goddess

The last Calendar ended up with a few more mistakes than expected. I apologize for my errors. We also had some glitches due to the change-over of editors. Glenn & I will both work hard this month to make sure the calendar and the rest of the MAAM is error free. If your calendar announcement isn't in the calendar, it probably didn't reach me soon enough.

As the weather warms up in May, I am expecting to spend at least part of each weekend out of doors. My fiancee is an avid fisherman. He has a few fishing trips lined up. (He wants me to catch the fishing bug.) If you've lived in Phoenix long, you know that regardless of what the weatherman says, it isn't really hot until the temperature gets about 105o F. I'm a native and really love the hot weather. I just look for some shade whenever I'm outside. I'll also be heading down to the BOB for a ball game or two.

Please Note: Your calendar announcements need to be to me by 8 p.m. on the 13th of the month. That way, I have enough time to get the calendar finished and sent to the editor.

Announcements received after 8 p.m. will not be added to my copy of the calendar.

What's that activity about?

Shoestring Gourmet - Get a group of people who like to eat well, but not spend a lot of money and you have the makings of Shoestring Gourmet. Each month a different theme will be selected for the dinner. Recipes will be provided if you don't have one that fits the category. You cook it up, you bring it over and you join your Mensa friends in gobbling it up. That along with great conversation. Groups are usually small, so this could be a great way for new members to get acquainted with others, without becoming overwhelmed.

Games Night - another great way to get involved without getting overwhelmed. A variety of games are provided for you to enjoy or you can bring one of your own. Conversation can easily center around the game, so you don't have to worry about getting tongue-tied or trying to think up something to say. Don't like playing games? This evening is so casual, you can just come and sit and watch others play games or sit and chat with the others who don't feel like playing games either.

Fold, Staple & Mutilate - a great way to relieve stress as you take it out on the MAAM, which can't talk back. A small group of regulars and newcomers gathers at Stevie's house once a month to put together the newsletter. Get acquainted with your fellow Mensans. Join in on one of the deep (or not so deep) discussions that always seem to come up. Come join the fun. Be warned, Stevie has 2 cats who also join in the fun. The April FSM won't be as fun, since TJ was hit by a car in early April

The necessary stuff:

Have a great month
