I want to begin by saying that food and fellowship lie at the very foundation of Mensa. In fact the organization got started from those two considerations. I apologize to Al Gore and Jim Morgan for not including the Shoestring in the April issue. I shall see that it does not happen again.

In the InterLoc this month there was an excellent article by John Saringer. Basically, we do not represent the upper two per cent. We are a unique community of that group and one I very much like to be associated with. Reason? I am a person who believes that the human intelligence stands as the highest form of authority in making the decisions of life. (My opinion, and note Mensa as an aggregate HAS NO opinions.) I want to make it a point to attend the next Forum. I hope that many of you will as well. If we are so intelligent, then we should be happy and rich as well!

Saringer noted that we are demographically aging. One area I wish to explore is attracting more younger Mensans and keeping them. I value the young and hope we can attract more and more young people.

For example, the computer has been my life. I wrote my first computer program in 1959 and it has been an ultimate love - hate relationship ever since. I note that in this field, a 22 year old can know more about computers than people like me who helped invent them.

I mentioned about the directory last month. After some thought and looking at alternatives, I decided to put it into a format similar to the telephone book. Clearly millions of people use this item on a regular daily basis and it seems to work. Then, as I mentioned, we will have a first and last name listing because in many cases we know someone's first name, but cannot remember the last. This will be in the June MAAM and your name will be included unless you let me know otherwise. Area codes in the Greater Phoenix area are in transition and the directory may not be accurate in that area. If you get the familiar OOWI OOWI OOWI , you will just have to hang up and dial again.
