Mensa NTD a Big Success!

By Jerry Corbin

On November 11th Mensa held its annual Mensa National Testing Day. And again GPM had a large local participation. Thanks mainly to the fine PR efforts of our Publicity Coordinator Steve Broe, we had a record number of prospects show up (26) to take the test!

And our Proctor Coordinator Greg Webster did an excellent job of administrating the test and making the test takers feel at ease. I was heartened to see that many of the prospects were young people (even teenagers). I hope to see many of their bright smiling faces at future Mensa events (particularly the guy I loaned $3 to so he could take the test!).

Holiday Parties

The holidays are coming up and GPM has a full slate of parties planned for our local Mensa Family (see Arleen Williams’ article elsewhere in this MAAM). We hope to see many new and old faces during this holiday season.

What is the Purpose of Mensa?

In a previous MAAM, I expressed the hope that GPM would get more involved in furthering intelligent thought in our local community. Again I would like to invite anyone with suggestions about what GPM could do in this arena to contact our Community Services Coordinator Lynn Powers.

MERF Needs You

And speaking of furthering intelligent thought in our community, MERF is a very worthwhile Mensa activity. And thanks to the efforts of Judy and Neil Krentzen, last year’s MERF auction at the RG was the best ever. And again this year Neil is looking to make the MERF auction a major success. To make this happen we need quality items to be auctioned off. Perhaps you can help by getting a local business to donate something of value (including gift certificates). If so, Neil would like to hear from you.

The 2001 RG is Close

Be sure to mark the upcoming RG on your January calendars. This year’s RG will be bigger and better than ever. So make so new friends and renew old acquaintances by joining us there. Also if you are of a mind to help, we are still looking for all sorts of volunteers.
