Acute Angles: An Invitation

by David Fidelman

Because SMART feels that all of the existing so-called IQ tests do not measure real intelligence, we accept members only if they score in the top 2% on a test that has been especially created for our organization, one which we feel avoids the cultural biases of which most current IQ tests have been accused. To minimize gender bias, in addition to the general questions there is a separate group of questions for men and a corresponding group for women.

Obviously, one cannot study for an examination of basic intelligence, but having an idea of what the test conditions are and what sort of questions will be asked tends to reduce nervousness and help those taking the test have a better chance of performing to their best ability. Therefore this press release includes samples of the types of questions that appear on our test.

The following instructions will be read aloud by the examiner before the test is administered: "Because some of you are unable to read, this will not be a written test. Each question will be read aloud in three languages – English, Spanish and Ebonics. You will be given a choice of four answers – A, B, C, D – one of which is the best answer. Each line of your answer sheet has four boxes. The first one is A, the second B, etc. After each question, put an X in the box that corresponds to your choice."
