Forum: Skills for a Successful Life |
We only need to look around us to see that possessing a high IQ is no guarantee of a "happy" or "successful" life. Some people with a high IQ are trapped in low paying boring jobs, and live otherwise lonely drab lives. Many other people, of more or less "average" intelligence, enjoy successful and interesting careers, warm and supportive romantic relationships, rewarding friendships, interesting hobbies, and make positive contributions to the world in which they live.
Although possessing a high IQ can certainly be very helpful at succeeding in the game of life, there are obviously other personality traits and learned skills that also contribute significantly to a happy and successful life. People skills, a positive outlook, enthusiasm, perseverance, creativity, and rational thought processes are some of the personality traits that also are important.
In this Forum we are going to explore some of these other personality traits that help people lead happy productive lives. A very qualified expert on personality traits and success will lead the discussions. A discussion of happiness and success could potentially lead off into esoteric philosophical ramblings. The intent of this Forum is to provide useful and practical insights. The interests of the audience members will dictate some of the complex issues that will be discussed.
Some specific questions that may come up include the following: Can one learn people skills? Why are they so valuable? What is creativity? Can it be enhanced? Why are some people more cheerful than others are? Is it counter productive (or phony) to act more enthusiastic than you feel? How can you motivate yourself to persevere over the long term? We expect that this Forum will prove to be different and very interesting. We hope to see you there!
