The State of GPM

The State of GPM

As I leave office I am reminded for the thousandth time how vital volunteers are to an organization such as ours. This will be increasingly so as we move toward the 2002 AG, now a scant 24 months away.

A very important role, and one which was handled capably by Ellen Diana, is that of Publicity (and Public Relations). Although our main event of the year is National Testing Day in November, there are other occasional needs to "get our spin on things". Ellen has a good amount of media related material to turn over to her successor, so if you want a hand as "GPM Press Secretary" step forward and be counted.

The Scholarship Chair position is also in need of a person who wants to emphasize to the community that we are more than just a social group. I have always cautioned organizations to which I belong to keep the damper on burnout by not asking too much of any one person and to let people step aside while they still have an attitude allowing for another tour of duty later on. If any of you "burned out stars" from the past are reading this, try to mentor those now shining members who do the work.

I promise we will not try to bring you out of retirement, but just tap into your wealth of experience and institutional knowledge. And to paraphrase my last sentence of a year ago this issue, I (as I’m sure do Jerry and the rest of the new officers)

I hope to see you at an event this month!

Regards, Mel
