for high visibility to assist newcomers when a group is meeting in a public
place.

to get favorable remarks in the evaluations. Jerry will host the next post-Forum get together at the Uptown Brewery.
National Testing Day is coming up in November. Jerry has been working with Steve Broe on publicity for Mensa. They visited KBAQ and KJAZZ radio stations and discussed being a sponsor to receive advertising for Mensa. They will bring information to the next meeting to discuss this in more detail.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
GPM Web Site Issues: Robert
Andrews presented information about the web site he maintains for Greater
Phoenix Mensa. It contains pages such
as the archived newsletters that Alan Gore maintains and links to other
sites such as the Mensa Intranets page and other Mensa groups, national and
international. Our web site is also
included in several search engines such as Yahoo, Excite, Google, and Lycos,
has referrals at pages such as Microsoft, Angelfire, Go.com, Dogpile, Geocites,
and Alta Vista and in the future, Robert plans to link to Mike Johnson’s email
list. The Mensa main page gets about
300 hits per month, the humor page gets about 730, and the old newsletters
pages about 70. The new domain names
we purchased (greaterphoenixmensa.org and phoenixmensa.org), when accessed,
go directly to our current web site. Robert
recommended we leave the ariz.com/mensa address as listed in MAAM and list
one other address also, such as phoenixmensa.org. He also recommended we print the national Mensa
address (which links to ours) since it’s a stable address. Robert also encouraged that more pictures be
sent for publishing on the web site and that we show email addresses of key
people, such as the membership chair. Mike
moved and John seconded that we purchase the name phoenixmensa.com for 5 years
and publish this name in MAAM along with phoenixmensa.org. The motion passed. Robert will send an article to Glenn.
In regards to potential GPM projects, it was decided we should
get in touch with the Pappas School to gather information about possibly supporting
this charity. Jerry volunteered to
do that.
GOOD AND WELFARE (MATTERS
ARISING):
We need a new host for a New Year's or Christmas party. It was also suggested we have a membership party. Jerry suggested we give some thought to these
issues.
Meg made a motion for adjournment and Glenn seconded.
The motion carried and the meeting was adjourned at 1:20 p.m.
