Happy New Year and whatever else it is we are celebrating. I hope you took my advice and paid your dues in December. If you did not, remember that you will gain points for your Local Group for the Group of the Year competition by renewing by the end of January. Last year Region 9 won in two of the five group sizes. Let us see if we can win them all this year.
This month’s Regional Gathering is Phoenix Phiesta XXI, Phuture Schlock, to be held January 14-17 in Phoenix Arizona. Check out the details in the Mensa Bulletin. I hope to see many of you there.
Don’t forget to sign up for the Leadership Development Workshop (February 25-27) too. This is an event that will be very helpful to you personally and to your Local Group. It is also a way to earn more points for your Local Group in the Group of the Year contest.
I have just returned from the AMC Meeting. We considered several motions brought by the Referendum and Elections Procedure Committee and the Nominating Committee Process Review Committee (the NomCommComm). There will be several items going to referendum next summer. There will also be a change in the way the National Nominating Committee is chosen. Each Local Group will be asked to provide one member for this committee. Contact your LocSec or ExComm if you would like to serve in this way.
Over 1,500 people were tested on National Testing Day. We expect about half of them to join. We are also getting others joining on prior evidence, as well as lapsed members rejoining. I do not yet have the November month-end figures to see how our groups are doing, but nationally we expect to have as many members by the middle of December as we had at the end of the last membership year. That is three months earlier than last year.
Have you made your New Year’s resolutions? Resolve to attend at least Mensa activity each month, to take part in some special event and to do something to "give back" to Mensa.
