March 31 marks the end of our membership year. To avoid being declared 'Lapsed' you need to have your membership renewed by then. As well as the shame of being so declared, lapsed members cost the Local Group money. National sends the Local group an allocation based on the number of members each month. You must also be paid up by then to be part of the fun of CultureQuest.
Speaking of March 31; Region 9 had more members by January 31, 2000 than at March 31, 1999. Membership nationally is also well up.
Have you joined a team for CultureQuest yet? Each team can have up to five members and two alternatives. All team members must be registered on the official form by March 20. The event will take place on Sunday, April 16. A Local Group may have as many teams as it can field. Borderline Mensa, with 50 members, will have two teams this year. Your group can do better than that.
At the March AMC Meeting, we will approve a budget for the coming year. I will report on that in my May column. Your LocSec and Editor receive the agenda for AMC Meetings at the same time I do. Ask to see them, then if you have any input before the meeting, please let me know.
The next Regional Gathering in our region is Three Days Before the Mast. It will be held at a lakeside resort in San Diego, May 26-29. Registration of $64.00 made out to San Diego Mensa RG should be sent to Teri Egenberger, 4242 Camino Del Rio N., San Diego, CA 92108. Then, of course, there is Philly Phrolics, The Annual Gathering in Philadelphia. It is time to register for both these great events.
If you have not yet been to an RG or AG, it is time for you to start. They are a lot of fun as well as being educational. There is something for everyone and they are a great way to really get to know other Mensans and become part of the family.
