Mensa is on the move. No, no, we are not moving the office again. The recent tornado did break windows and blow papers around at the old office we had in Fort Worth and the building that was our second choice for the new office was destroyed, but our National Office was unharmed. None of our office staff suffered any major damage to their homes even though Tamela Herczeg lives only one block from an area that was destroyed.
So, what do I mean, Mensa is on the move? American Mensa finished the membership year with an increase of 5.7%. If we can do the same this coming year we will top the 50,000 mark. Activity among the Local Groups continues to increase. We had 82 teams take part in Culture Quest ® last month. There will be a new quiz show on FOX early this month. The show, tentatively titled "America’s Brightest" will be for children 9-12. Mensa is finding prospective candidates and reviewing the questions. The National Office receives more than 50 requests per week for resource information on Gifted Children. If you have any such information for your area, please contact Donna Bone at the National Office.
At the March AMC meeting we approved an increase in the subsidy to Local Groups and also set up a fund for groups in financial need. If you have some great idea that you would like to implement, don’t let your Exec. Com. tell you that they don’t have the money.
The motion to increase the number of regions to ten failed, (8-8-2) but three Local Groups were moved to other regions. As of April 1, Utah Mensa is in Region 9. We welcome them as part of our region.
The RG of the month is the San Diego Regional Gathering, Three Days Before the Mast to be held at Lake San Marcos Resort near San Diego, May 26-29. Then, of course, there is Philly Phrolics, The Annual Gathering in Philadelphia. It is time for you to register for both these great events. Orange Count Mensa has Seven Deadly Mensans, August 4-6. Borderline Mensa has We Caved, September 28- October 1. They have tickets for tours of Kartchner Caverns. I hope to see you at all these great events.
