Regional Ramblings

by Bob Cox, RVC Region 9

I have just returned from the Orange County Mensa Regional Gathering. They had some innovative ideas. One of these was private parties (everyone received an invitation to one, and you could swap it for one to a different party). The parties ranged from cozy to riotous. A good time was had by all.
This month’s Regional Gathering is Borderline Mensa’s RG, We Caved, September 28 - October 1. Registration is $50.00 now or $60.00 at the door. Tickets for tours of Kartchner Caverns are $15.00 (and selling out fast). Send check made out to Mensa RG to Donne Puckle, 125 E. Kayetan Dr., Sierra Vista, AZ 85635 or go to http:/borderlinemensa.tripod.com/ for more information and a registration form.
Scott Benjamin has the Region 9 Web Site set up. Visit it at http://region9.us.mensa.org. All Region 9 local group web pages should be linked to this sight and information, RG photos etc. pertinent to the region should be on this site. American Mensa now offers a free web site on its server to all Local Groups.
There is an AMC meeting this month (23rd.); your LocSec and Editor will have a copy of the agenda. I am always happy to receive input from members on any items on the agenda and you can be assured that I will present your ideas to the committee even if I do not fully support them.
The AMC election process has started for the election of officers to serve from July 2001 to July 2003. The National Nominating Committee has candidates for all positions but you may still run as a Petition Candidate for any office. If you are interested in serving on the AMC, contact the National Office for the necessary forms.
If you would like to give back to Mensa but are not ready to be on the AMC, I am sure there is a job in your Local Group that is just waiting for you. Around this time of year many groups change officers. Let me remind you that if you are a retiring officer, you need to let the National Office know that you wish to continue receiving the Interloc.
The Interloc is a newsletter that is available free to any member. All officers receive it, others must ask for it each year. The Interloc is full of "how to" articles. If you are interested in improving your Local Group, I encourage you to get this newsletter.
