Regional Ramblings

By Bob Cox, RVC Region 9

There is some re-shuffling going on in the National Office. We have lost two of our key personnel. Tamela Herczeg - Membership Director, has been wooed back by her old employer to a much better position. Donna Bone? Testing and Administrations Manager, has accepted a position in Phoenix. The good news is that Donna will (has?) become a Mensa member and plans to become active in the Local Group. Our National Office staff are not allowed to be Mensans. I believe that this is the first time someone we have hired has left and become a member.

I have spent a lot of time this month reading newsletters from all the Local Groups in the country (as your Editor has). There are some excellent newsletters and those from our region are among them. Do you know that you can get any of them by subscription? Many Mensans subscribe to the newsletter of the group they came from or where they have some special interest. You can find out how to get them from the directory in the September Bulletin, although it no longer lists the prices.

By the time you read this I will have been to the AMC meeting in Boise Idaho. I will report on it in my next column. I am looking forward to seeing some of my old frien s from Southeast Idaho Mensa from the time when I was RVC in Region 8.
You may yet be in time for the Borderline Mensa RG in Arizona. The Regional Gathering of the month is Inland Interlude: An RG of Note, in San Bernardino, October 27-29. Checks for $50.00 made out to Inland Empire RG should be sent to the Registrar, Lee Hansen, 2264 Avenida del Vista, Corona, CA 92407.

Speaking of Inland Empire Mensa (and AMC meetings), they have put in a bid to host the AMC meeting next September. It is high time we had one in our region. I will not be able to tell you if their bid was successful until next month because the decision is made at the Boise meeting.

Several of our Local Groups have elections around this time of year. If yours is one, be sure to vote. If they are still looking for candidates, I encourage you to run for some office. None of the jobs are very hard or too time consuming and are usually a lot of fun. I am sure your Local Group also has some appointed positions that you could volunteer for. You know the old saying, "you get out of it what you put into it".
