Regional Ramblings |
By Bob Cox, RVC Region 9
The National NomComm has announced its list of candidates for the up-coming
election. Those that we are able to vote for are Bob Beatty and Tony Jackowski
for Chairman, Jean Becker and Linda Hathaway for First Vice Chair, Russ Bakke
and Bob Cox for Second Vice Chair, Dan Burg for Secretary, Jim Werdell for
Treasurer and Barbara Lytle for RVC Region 9. There is
still plenty of time for Petition Candidates, so all positions are wide open
at the moment. You may even want to run for one yourself.
National Testing Day has been set for November 11. This will be our third
such event and has become our biggest recruiting tool. Testing is conducted
all around the country on this day. This creates a lot of media coverage nationally
and for Local Groups. Most of our groups are taking part. Encourage your friends
to take the test. After all if they are your friends they probably qualify
for Mensa.
At the AMC meeting in Boise Idaho we approved splitting off Florida to form
a tenth Region (that is not like splitting off Northern California to be another
state). Since then the Election Committee has said that we can not do that
at this time, so we are not quite sure where this stands at the moment. We
should have things sorted out by the end of the December AMC meeting.
Inland Empire Mensa was approved to host the AMC meeting next September. They
will hold a Regional Gathering in conjunction with this meeting. You have
probably just missed (or enjoyed) their 2000 RG.
There are no RGs in our region this month but it is time to sign up for the
Sin City RG in Las Vegas,
December15-17. Registration is $55:00 till 11/15. Registrar: Ruth Gorman,
3642 Boulder Hwy #26, Las Vegas NV 89121. The hotel rooms are $25:00 plus
tax.
It is also time to register for the Leadership Development Workshop that will
be held in Long Beach,
February 23-25. Registration is free but you need to register with Julia Meyer,
4547 Maybank Ave. Lakewood CA 90712. This event is open to all members who
have an interest in making their local group function more effectively. I
hope you will consider attending.
