Candidate Cameo: Dan Burg

I came to the race for Second Vice-Chairman only recently, after former Chairman Bob Beatty resigned and thereby created a vacancy in the position of Second Vice-Chairman (after automatic successions). After careful consideration, I decided to decline my nominations for re-election asSecretary in order to run for Second Vice-Chairman.
Serving on the AMC as Secretary has prepared me well to be Second Vice-Chairman. The Second Vice-Chairman is a member of the Executive Committee, and I am on the ExComm. The Second Vice-Chairman usually chairs the Bylaws Committee, and I am on Bylaws. The Second Vice-Chairman is usually a National Representative to Mensa International, and I am a
NatRep. I am ready to, as the saying goes, “hit the ground running.”
As Secretary, I created the agenda and wrote the minutes for each AMC meeting. I also maintained the list of Actions Still in Effect. These activities gave me intimate knowledge of the many aspects of American Mensa’s and the AMC’s business. The Second Vice-Chairman is something of a
”special projects” person, available for whatever comes up, and being Secretary has given me this breadth.
Locally, I have been a local group officer almost continuously for the past eighteen years, including serving as LocSec and editor. Before coming to the AMC, I chaired and/or was a member of seven national committees during the previous nine years. I have also presented leadership development
workshops at the last three AGs and at four LDWs/LOTS.
Professionally, I am a patent attorney, after a first career in computer software. My B.S. in Computer Science, M.B.A., and J.D. have provided good training to be the Second Vice-Chairman of American Mensa and a member of our corporate board of directors.
I look forward to serving American Mensa as Second Vice-Chairman. Thank you for your support.
