Candidate Cameo: Mel Anderson

If elected chairman I will work hard for the local groups at the AMC level, including immediately determining if we can prudently increase local group funding without raising dues.  My mission as chairman is to help us VALUE our membership in Mensa.  I promise to be an open, accessible and visible chairman.  I will be an effective conduit of ideas from the members and local groups to the AMC.

Also, my demonstrated leadership skills will allow me to serve the membership well in the vital areas of:

  1.    Running the meetings well
  2.    Creating harmony on the AMC
  3.    Managing our national office resources
  4.    Recruiting volunteers
  5.    Promoting teamwork
As past LocSec in both Los Angeles and Phoenix, I view the importance of the local groups as between that of the national entity and the individual members, central to both.  In each of those cities I helped strengthen the local group by my recruitment of leaders.  I was visible, accessible, and facilitating.  I appointed Young-M Coordinators and promoted local chapter events to expand the use of our social benefits. I fostered harmony, built consensus, and was visible, decisive and fair.

The local groups are vital components of the society — different yet equally important as the national organization.  At the national level I have been preparing and qualifying myself for the job as chairman for over a year.  I have attended AMC meetings, many committee meetings and met with most of AMC members to build rapport and gain knowledge of practices and procedures.

This February I also attended the budget committee meeting in Arlington.  I felt it was important for me to have early, first-hand participation in such an important function.

Please create more value for all of us. Vote for me as your next chairman.
