Candidate Cameos: Meyer, Vasiliauskas

Statement from Marie Mayer, Candidate for AMC Secretary

Serving as AMC Communications Officer the last four years has been a  rewarding challenge. Now I’m ready for a new challenge-serving as AMC Secretary. Although I want to move into a new role with Mensa, I carry with me an important focus of my current role-communication.      Because local groups and members want to know how decisions from AMC meetings affect them, I will use my skills and experience to not only accurately prepare agendas and minutes for AMC meetings but also find ways to convey to members what the actions mean to them and their local group. My overall goal is to enhance Mensa for its members and I ask for your vote as Secretary to help me do so.   And, I will remember that we must take time to laugh and have fun while we take care of business.

My name is Judy Vasiliauskas, but please call me Judy V. Its simpler. I’m running for AMC Secretary because I’d like to help simplify things in Mensa, too; to govern less so members can enjoy Mensa more.

As a former LocSec and Editor myself, I want the AMC to be more responsive to local group needs, to give more of each dues dollar back to the local groups, to create an atmosphere conducive to members and chapters generating positive ideas.

By  focusing on what’s essential to the members and the core operations of American Mensa as a corporation, the AMC can return more money to local groups. By reducing regulations the AMC can encourage our volunteers to explore new approaches. I’d like to see support of member-generated events such as the Leadership Seminar in Amarillo and the Gifted Children Colloquium in Ohio, neither of them sponsored by the AMC because they fell outside the guidelines prescribed by the committees sanctioning them. The AMC’s job is to set general policy and to set the members’ imaginations free.
