More Commoner Puzzles

by Aaron Gough

Commoner puzzles are lists of words in two columns.  The words in Column A have a property not shared by those in Column B.   Answers to last month’s puzzles:   In the first set, all the words in Column A begin and end with the same letter.  In the second set, all the words in Column A are mythical creatures.

Here are some more to have fun with.   In each case there is something you can do to the words in column A that you cannot do to the words in Column B.  The answers will appear next month.  If you are dying of curiosity, they will be included in the on-line version of the MAAM.

Answers:  Group 1, you can add “day” in front of the words in column A to form a new valid English word.  Group 2,  you can add an “s” to the front of each word in column A to form a new valid English word.  Group 3, you can add an “r” to the next to the last letter to the words in column A.  Eg. “Spy” becomes “Spry.”  Group 4, you can replace “c” with “d” with the words in column A.  Group 5, you can add a “t” to the front of the words in column A.
