Corby’s Corner: Bush Vs. Gore |
We survived the year 2000 in pretty good shape except for a presidential race that seemed to never end. Tonight (as I write this) Al Gore made his concession speech, so I guess that it is now officially over. No matter which side of the political fence you tend to be on, you can not be very happy with the manner in which the race was decided. Long term, the impact of this election on the process of selecting future presidents (for better or worse) may turn out to be more important than who won this time around.
See you at the RG!
Although it doesn’t seem possible, the 2001 Phoenix RG is almost upon us. We have a strong slate of speakers lined up. Plus the Hospitality Suite and food offered this year promise to be excellent. Please see the registration elsewhere in this MAAM. To get the discount, you must sign-up by 1/14/01. We hope to see you there!
Need for Volunteers
The lifeblood of any organization like GPM are the volunteers who make the events and activities happen. And GPM is one of the more active Mensa chapters in the country (believe me I have looked at some of the other Newsletters). Without the fine efforts of our dedicated volunteers, GPM would come to a screeching halt. But the core group of dedicated GPM volunteers is only a tiny proportion of the 800+ members that make up the total GPM membership.
We need more people like you to get involved in some form or fashion. Volunteering does not have to be a major commitment on your part. Most volunteer positions such as an Activity Coordinator (i.e. PTA), Membership Chair, or Ex-Com “Member at Large” do not require much time and effort each month. Other volunteer slots such as Newsletter Editor and Loc Sec do require a larger commitment each month. In addition, both the upcoming 2001 RG and the 2002 AG will require many volunteers.
So we ask that you get involved, have some fun, and volunteer whatever time and effort you feel comfortable with. We are confident that you will find the time and effort that you expend to be a rewarding experience. And you will be helping to make (and shape) GPM into the kind of organization that you will feel proud to be associated with!
Happy New Millennium
As we boldly march onward on Jan.1, I would like to wish all Phoenix Mensans a happy, prosperous, and healthy new millennium!
