GPM Wins Contest!

Bob Cox (Region 9 RVC) sponsored a rather unique contest amongst the three roughly equally sized Region 9 groups  (Orange County, San Diego, and Greater Phoenix Mensa).    The prize we were competing for was $100 to be used for a “Congratulations Party”.  The prize money was to be awarded to the local group which ended the membership year with the most members. And we were just notified by Bob that the winner is Greater Phoenix Mensa! We came from behind to finish first with a membership of 870 members. That is an increase for the year of 6.9% Bob had this to say, “Congratulations Greater Phoenix Mensa (or is that Greatest Phoenix Mensa). You must be doing something right. Your prize money will be on the way soon. Party hardy.”

Thanks Bob. We will put the prize money towards a great party for the membership of GPM. Hope you can make it!

Speaking of Party…

The Executive Committee is entertaining ideas about holding a large membership party late this Summer or early Fall. Many of you may remember the rather unique party we had at a downtown Phoenix art-space a couple of summers back. Food and drink was provided, we had live music, and we had interesting art to admire (or not) surrounding us on all sides. Many GPM members tell us that this was the best  blowout (most fun) of any GPM party or event in recent memory. It was definitely was one of the largest GPM events ever– it attracted a huge crowd including many new members and inactive older members.

With Bob’s prize money (see above) as seed money to help get us started, there is no reason we can’t have an even better party this year! We are looking for unique ideas for a fun party theme and (especially) a fun and unique party location. This is where you come in— if you have any good ideas or suggestions,  please let an Executive Committee member know. Also if you would like to volunteer to help out with the party (it will be fun!) we would like to know that also.

Make a Difference – Volunteer!

As was spelled out in last month’s Corby’s Corner, GPM is one of the more active local groups around. We have several activities on our calendar each and every week. But the fact it is a rather small ole’ core group of volunteers that make GPM the successful and active organization that it  has been. We need more new people to get involved in the leadership of GPM to keep it strong and vital. Not only can you make a difference, but getting involved has its own rewards.

So please consider running for a position on the GPM Executive Committee. Most of the positions (Members at Large and Recording Secretary) really don’t require much time and effort outside the monthly Executive Committee Meeting itself.
