Corby's Corner

RG is a Success!     As I write this, our 2001 Phoenix Regional Gathering has just ended. Although the attendance was down slightly from last year (about 100 attendee’s this year), the feedback from those that attended was overwhelmingly positive. The Registration, Hospitality, and Program efforts were well executed, and everyone seemed to have a good time. For those of you unable to attend, you missed a good one!

A special thanks is owed to the dedicated core of volunteers who planned and worked diligently to make the RG the success that it was. Thanks, and a pat on the back for a job well done to; Mel, Carolyn, Pat, Yvonne, John & Stevie, Ursula, Lynn, Jason & Elizabeth, Ken, Laura, Gary & Gail, Terry, Meg, Alan, John, Bill, Amanda, Glenn, Diana, Bruce, and Mike, Ray and Bill,  as well as the many other unnamed (but appreciated) volunteers.

Next year we will be the host to the big show — the 2002 Annual Gathering will be held here in Phoenix over the July 4th weekend. We will be actively drafting many volunteers from both within and without GPM to make this AG an event to remember. Because we are playing host to the 2002 AG, there will be no local RG next year.

Leadership Development Workshop

This year the Leadership Development Workshop will be held in Long Beach, CA over the weekend of February 23-25. We encourage any GPM member who has an interest in learning how to make GPM function more effectively to register for this workshop. Also you will come away with a much better understanding of how American Mensa works. I have attended LDW and can personally testify that the caliber of the speakers is high and the material covered is useful. And an unofficial side benefit is that you get to meet and interact with interesting Mensans from other local groups within our Region.

This workshop is especially important for GPM this year as we gear up to host the 2002 AG. Members of the AG Committee and other AG volunteers are strongly encouraged to attend this workshop.

Registration for the workshop itself is free, and in addition, GPM will help defray some of the transportation costs and lodging costs for attendee’s from GPM. The exact amount that GPM will reimburse each attendee will partly depend on how many people from GPM attend the workshop. If you are interested in attending the workshop please EMAIL (preferably)  me at jcorbin@primenet.com or call me at 480-429-3595 by February 3rd.
