I really liked our RG this year. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
There was a lot of speculation as to why it was not as big as last year’s. This is just my own personal observation: Mostly because of our slight recession starting to set in and people simply had other things they were doing.
Simply and to the point, to me, and I was not a principal player in the RG, it was very well done all the way around. Lots of good companionship, absolutely excellent speakers, and darn good food.
It is interesting that both last year and this year I had friends drop in the weekend of the RG who were Mensans from out of town who did not go to our RG. In this case they came in Sunday and I left the RG a bit early to entertain them. So here is a story to tell. This man has strong views on genetic engineering of plants. I told him that one of the speakers I introduced was Dr. Ralph Backhaus who is an expert on plants. Backhaus did not give me the impression that he felt genetic engineering of plants was a big problem. My house guest felt otherwise. Yet, he was not at the RG where he could have presented his ideas. I told him that in just so many words. Why didn’t you come to Phoenix a day earlier and attend our RG? And present your views with your peers?
At the RG I talked with one of our newer members. She wondered why if we have 750 or so members in Phoenix more did not come to the RG?
Here is the deal. Mensa is a real neat organization. I have belonged to now for more than 25 years. One of my special interests. Mensa is you and you and you and you etc. That is all it is. It is what you make it.
