This month, both in the Forum and in the article by Kebba Buckley,  we get into an area that many Mensans would consider controversial.

Back to this same old question of where we feel something is scientific and where it resides in the more speculative arena.

There is certainly no question that many people employ the ideas of self image and positive thought processes.  It may be the coach giving a pep talk to the players before the big game, or the head of sales telling people to get out there and “make the sale.”    The concepts of  visualization are widely employed regardless of their exact justification from a purely scientific standpoint.  In Mark 11:23, Jesus tells people to move mountains by believing it can be done.   The idea is hardly new.  Yet, it is 2001 and we have a real International Space Station with real people living in space.

My main reaction to a lot of this, is to ask the question, “what can it hurt?”   Allowing yourself to be struck by a poisonous snake believing you will survive by faith can be hazardous to your health.  Going through an affirmation that you see yourself in a perfect relationship or making a lot of money may or may not work.  It will not hurt to try.

On another track, I am impressed by Annette Hill's work with the Children's Association and was happy to include it in the MAAM.  I also hope some of you will check out the Arthritis Foundation work

Another matter.  Normally local newsletters stay out of National Politics.    We had an unfortunate thing happen when Bob Beatty suddenly resigned as National AMC Chair.   Bob Cox, our RVC is running for 2nd Vice Chair and I feel that since he is our RVC,  I wanted to give him a chance to speak his peace.  In fairness, his opponent should also be given a similar opportunity.

Please note that our deadline for submissions has been moved back one day to allow the printer some more time to prepare the issue.
