From the Editor |
I often wonder about the placement of the editorials in the MAAM. There are three: mine, Jerry’s and Bob’s. The latter are in the back of the issue and mine is first.
So, I wish you would read theirs first and then come back to here. They always have a lot of good things to say. Bob asks you take the time to vote in the National Election. I tried to cover in the MAAM the critical offices on that front last month. But, you should have your National Bulletin with the ballot so vote. Jerry brings up the good point that while we have a rip roaring membership, we need leaders. People who will get out there and do something. Please consider getting even a little bit active in the local group.
Next month is a critical issue of the MAAM because it will contain the Membership Directory and the candidate positions on the local level. First the Directory. If you are a currently active Mensan, you will be listed in the directory unless you tell me otherwise. Our directory is unique. I get all the newsletters from the major Mensa groups and many of the smaller ones. Our main directory, like last year, will look like the telephone book. I figure if that works in the mainstream, why try and innovate. Then we will have the first-last name directory. Often you pick up a first name, but cannot remember the last name. I will say that while our directory is sent only to Mensans, others can get a hold of it. On the other hand, as a practical matter, it is rarely abused. It is simply another vehicle for Mensans to be able to get in touch with another. I hope you will want to be listed.
If you wish not to be listed I need to know this by the Newsletter Deadline date of May 12th.
Another point is special interest groups (SIG’s). This is a strong point about Mensa. If you have something you like, you can bet there other Mensans with a like interest. Consider starting one, or tell us about some you are interested in.
I finally ask you to check out what is going on. Like to go out and eat? Check out dining out discussed in this issue.
Finally tell me what you like about the MAAM or about Mensa and what you wish to improve or what you what you would like to see different.
