Regional Ramblings |
Aren’t you glad you live in the Southwest? The USA had its coldest November and December on record.
The people in the frozen North (they call it the East or the Mid-West) are praying for global warming.
We are continuing to get new members as a result of National Testing Day (and other effort by Local Groups). We expect to have another year of growth but at the end of 2000, we were still short of our March figure. Two of our Local Groups had regained their March figures by the end of October. Congratulations to San Diego Mensa and Utah Mensa.
Have you checked out the Mensa web page lately? They are adding new stuff every week so visit it often. There is now a link to Amazon.com and prospective members can buy the Home Test on the web. There is a password in the Mensa Bulletin for access to the member’s only section. Don’t forget to check out your Local Group web site too.
If you are not a Local Group officer and you are receiving Interloc, you need to request it again this month for the coming year. All Local Group officers receive Interloc automatically. Any other member can receive it no charge simply by requesting it from the National Office.
We normally have a Regional Gathering in Region 9 about every four weeks for most of the year. We have a little slump at the moment. Our next one will be the San Diego RG in May. America’s (the world’s) longest running RG, Asilomar has had to relocate and will be joining our line-up of Regional Gatherings in our region this Labor Day weekend.
We do however have our Leadership Development Workshop to be held in Long Beach this month, February 23-25. Registration is free but you need to register with Julia Meyer, 4547 Maybank Ave. Lakewood CA 90712. This event is open to all members who have an interest in making their local group function more effectively. There is still time for you to register.
I hope you renewed your membership in January. If you did not, I encourage you to do so as soon as possible (today would be good). If you have a little extra cash (or limit on your credit card) seeing you don’t have any RGs to spend it on, consider multiple year or a life membership.
