Regional Ramblings

by Bob Cox, RVC Region 9

Have you voted in the National election yet? If you renewed your membership on time, the ballot is in your current Mensa Bulletin.     You do not have to vote for an RVC, Barbara Lytle was unopposed and has been declared elected. Barbara takes office at the AG. There are other offices that are contested and your vote is  important. Go and do that now. You can finish reading this later.
As I predicted last month, the AMC approved the budget so all the things I promised you are now yours. There were some interesting things that came out of the meeting. MERF has increased the value of the scholarships that it gives for every Local Group that takes part in the program. They will now give $250.
The lowest National scholarships will now be $600.  They plan to announce this year’s scholarships by
Graduation.
For those of you who want some serious discussion, there will be a Colloquium on the Science of
Consciousness in Troy Michigan, August 16-18, 2002.  The 2003 Annual Gathering will be in St. Paul,
Minnesota.
Because of changes in the law over the past 18 months, Mensa will no longer (until further notice) tell
candidates who take our tests, what their IQ score is. The tests are admission tests, we will tell them if they qualify for admission.
This month’s RG is the San Diego Regional Gathering at beautiful Lake San Marcos, May 25-28. Registration is $64 until April 30, then $70, Meal Package $50. Send registration and a check made out to SD Mensa RG to Margie Bowles, 12290 Linroe Dr., Lakeside, CA  92040-5402.
The Annual Gathering in Dallas is fast approaching. If you have never been to an AG, give this one a try.
Visit the Web site at for all the information. You need to call the Hotel Intercontinental in Dallas for a
room. The rate is $103 for one to four people. I understand that the hotel is filling fast, reserve
today.   The web site is  www.ag.us.mensa.org

You should also have Son of Asilomar, over Labor Weekend, on your calendar as well as the Inland Empire
RG, New Beginnings, at the end of September. The new AMC will be at this one. You did vote, didn’t you?
