It is almost time for the Annual Gathering. This year it is in Dallas
from July 3 to 8. Even if you can not make it for the whole time, be
sure to come for a few days. An AG is an experience not to be missed.
Registration is $75.00 if you register this month. The AG hotel is
filling fast, if you have left it too late to get a room there, there
are back-up hotels nearby. Check out the Mensa Bulletin or the Mensa
Website for the details.
One of the events we always look forward to at the AG is the Awards
Luncheon. This is where they announce the winners of all the
competitions and awards. We expect groups from our region to be among
the winners of CultureQuest and Group of the Year.
The most nail-biting time is the announcement of the winners in the
Publication Recognition Program (that's for newsletters and websites)
because the nominations have been announced. This year only five of our
newsletters were nominated and three of our websites, but they received
a lot of nominations.
In the Newsletter Awards, Region 9 newsletters received nominations in
all but three of the 23 categories. ie the newsletter of Inland Empire
Mensa received two nominations. L.A. Mentary of Greater Los Angeles
Mensa received three. San Diego Mensa received four nominations
including one for the large group Owl (for the best newsletter in the
country). Mind Bets the newsletter of Southern Nevada Mensa received
nominations in seven categories. The Oracle, the newsletter of Orange
County Mensa received an amazing eighteen nominations including one for
the Owl. I believe this is more nominations then any other group in
American Mensa.
For the Website awards, Greater Los Angeles Mensa received three, Orange
County Mensa received two and Southern Nevada Mensa one. I am sure the
individual editors will list the categories their newsletter was
nominated for in this issue. Congratulations and good luck to them all.
The AG is not the only event you must not miss in July. The Orange
County Mensa Regional Gathering, The Roaring 2000s is July 27-29.
