Regional Ramblings |
Greetings and salutations. It is with fear and trepidation that I put on the tee shirt with a target on the back declaring myself an AMC member. Be kind. Any real problems should be referred to your former RVC Bob Cox, just don’t tell him I sent you.
Speaking of Bob, he has left the region in wonderful shape. I felt privileged to even be associated with all of the talent recognized at the annual awards luncheon. The Group of the Year (GOTYA) award is the highest honor given to a local group. We took home two of these. Borderline Mensa earned it in the Small Group category for the third year in a row and San Diego Mensa got it for the second time in the Large Group division. Not willing to rest on their laurels, San Diego then picked up Community Activities Program (CAP)Award.
Ted Elzinga of Inland Empire brought
home the International Service Award and several of our groups scored in the
top 20 of Culture Quest winners: Phoenix Phive ( in 5th place, $120 scholarship
prize), and GLAAMarama (8th place, $105 prize.)
Our newsletters are the best in the country. Linda Kapiloff, editor
of ”The Oracle” brought gold to Orange County Mensa by earning the large group
OWL Award. “Mind Bets” of Southern Nevada came back with three biggies: Judy
Jetter with her Loc Sec column, William Raley as editor for his
Theme issues and Gayle Schreiber as editor for Poetry.
Your region will be well represented on the AMC. We have four voting members. Russ Bakke or Orange County is First Vice Chair, Joanna Sloper of Borderline is Membership Officer, Tyger Gilbert of Phoenix is Communications Officer, and myself. I am a member of the San Diego group by the way.
In addition to all these, we have many committee chairpersons in our midst. Jackie Abrams continues as National Literacy Project Chair is form San Diego, Carol Young from Phoenix is our 2002 Annual Gathering Chair, Kebba Buckley, also of Phoenix is the Leadership Development Workshop Coordinator, and Deb Stone from Orange County is Chairman of the Risk Management Committee.
I am incredibly fortunate to have so much talent
in the region. They will make my job a snap and give you a real voice within
Mensa. Come and meet everyone at the RG and AMC meeting in Inland Empire in
October . This is the place to make your views known, volunteer for committees,
put faces with names and get the inside scoop all in a setting of fun, food
and your favorite people.
I am looking forward to seeing and serving each of you.
Cheers
Barbara
