RVC Report |
“And a Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night” oops I guess I got a little ahead of myself but I do get excited about the Holiday season.
Speaking of a trifle early but much too exciting to delay writing about is the Boarderline RG. This enterprising group is going to take us on an evening foray to the Kitt Peak Observatory for a tour. This will be my very first time to an observatory and in the high desert in southern Arizona with no light pollution and accompanied by some of my favorite Mensa friends. What a delight. Give yourself a treat and join us Jan. 18th - 21st. Look for RG registration in this newsletter or at dpuckle@c2ic.com.
We are looking at a good turnout for the MERF Scholarship judging. Merv Meyer from Harbor Area Mensa will again assume the reigns as our regional chair with Richard Wylie as his local group chair. Nancy Chadwick will chair for San Diego, Charles Miller for Inland Empire, Patricia Lawrence for Orange County, and Rich Strickland, for Southern Nevada. Even Hawaii will join this years efforts. Please give these folks a hand (both meanings) when they ask you to do a little reading for this worthy cause. The local group will also rack up a lot of points for the Group of the Year award for participation in this activity.
Did I mention that Ted Elzinga from Inland Empire is now serving on both the Publication Policy Review Committee and the Election Procedure Review Committee? Speaking of elections: contact your Loc Sec if you would like to serve on the National Nominating Committee. We can have one member from each local group and this year’s committee meeting will be right here in Phoenix during the AG. Serving here is the best way to make your views felt (yes, I know it is a mixed metaphor) about who you want to see serving your interests on the AMC. It is also a lot of fun and a nice intro in national Mensa politics.
I was so pleased to spot a newspaper article about San Diego’s own Bill Carroll. He is a publisher and a prolific author of guide books and magazine articles and has now turned his talents to lecturing on China at San Diego University Continuing Center. Maybe we can prevail upon him to give us a talk at the AG or one or our RGs. I hope so.
Best Wishes For The Holidays,
Barbara
