Soiree for Lyn Stinnett

by Leigh Butler...

Those who attended last year’s party for Lyn will remember the insight we gained from listening to her tell about her travels and work for the Peace Corps as their itinerant Medical Officer. She was living near the Chinese border in a country almost bordering Afghanistan on 9/11. She immediately returned to her home base in Slovakia, but the woman she had just spent three months training was less fortunate. Her job was just not there anymore. Lyn hasn’t told me what costume she will wear for the party, but I will be wearing the silk sari from Bangladesh that she gave me last year.

We hope you have something foreign-looking in your closet to wear as a conversation starter (not that Mensans NEED anything to get them started).  I have been saving little logs to feed my chimenea, so you may want to bring a little wrap if you’d like to enjoy sitting around the fire outside.

For those who have not yet been to my home, the directions from SR-51 (Squaw Peak Parkway) and Bethany Home Road are as follows: Travel west for about 1000 feet to 16th Place. Turn right and park. Mine is the first house on your right. Park anywhere that doesn’t block a neighbor’s driveway. Give a wide berth to my Neighbor-From-Hell next door, to avoid a visit from the police. The Chiropractor’s parking lot on the NW corner of Bethany Home and 16th Place should be vacant and can safely be used if there is no space left on my property or the streets.  The next street to the west is 16th Street, so you can figure out how to get here from the west.
