Forum: What They Don't Teach You in School About Investing

by Steve Broe

Robin Shaw from Edward Jones Investments is our September Forum offering.   One of our members, Mike Johnson, heard her speak at ASU Downtown and was very impressed with her. Attendance at those events usually hovers around 20, but Robin attracted a crowd of 100 and held them captive for an hour or so with her knowledge and delivery. She aimed her talk at women investors, but what she had to say is equally applicable to men.

She says that, today, it’s more important than ever to evaluate our long-term financial goals. She will present her views in an interactive lecture on “Planning to Retire Rich”. Robin will focus on retirement needs, investment goals and the steps necessary to move toward individual financial success.

How to get organized.  Assessing where you stand now.
Learning to earn.  What they don’t teach you in school.
Creating a plan and establishing goals
Putting your money where your values are.
                        The power of compounded interest.
The single most effective thing you can do to have a secure financial future.
How to protect yourself and you money.

Robin Shaw was formerly the Commerce Chairman in the Arizona House of Representatives and the Vice Chairman of the Tax Committee. She served as a leader in the areas of Education, Tax Law, Business and Commerce, Health Care, Insurance and The Arts.   The Forum will be held at the Pyle Adult Recreation Center in Tempe, Friday September 13, starting at 7:00 P.M.  The Center is located about one block west of the corner of Rural and Southern on the south side of Southern.
